Don’t Bet on the Home Team

Do you have a favorite professional sports team that you follow? Do you go to every home game with enthusiasm? Do you spend hours reading the local sports section and listening to the local sports chat radio? Do you think you know more about the team than anyone else on the planet? Do you always pick them to win when you play handicap games for the week? Do you think you win more bets? Do you think this gives you a betting edge? Probably not; Betting on your favorite local team can cost you a lot of money each season.

Spending too much time on your favorite team is okay if you are a big fan, but not good if you are seriously trying to handicap slots events.sports, trying to make good decisions and trying to make a profit while betting. If you only bet to make things interesting, like many sports fans out there, you are not betting to win. Your sure bet will only let you down. This is your problem. Local sports media outlets are known for hype and always offer equal talk time about the home team; meaning a team may have a very unfavorable chance of possibly winning that week, but sports casters will be playing a 50/50 game with listeners. When a team’s major weakness is stated by one of the sports casters, the other sports coaches in the room give sometimes nonsensical excuses while the home team will be able to overcome those weaknesses. This is a 50/50 conversation that could go on for hours. After listening to the full broadcast, listeners tend to believe that a heavily mismatched home team is stronger than they really are or at least have a 50/50 chance of winning which may not be true. Local sports reporters do the same in the sports section.

Attending home games exacerbates this false reality. It’s too easy to be pumped up by all the teams and stadium hoopla. Even if your team is underperforming during the season, broadcasters will still be screaming with emotion every player’s name as they run onto the pitch. Professional sports are a business so they promote their teams as winners even when they don’t win and “they always improve” even after losing a few games. If you want to be seriously disabled, you have to drown out the noise. That is why most of the best handicappers are found in Las Vegas. There are no local teams and all sports information and news is highly researched and analyzed. This is all business in Las Vegas because there is real money at stake and the reputation of the disabled must be protected.
